Conscious uncoupling

We have a new
apartment. Tiny old ruin
the sound of water
an intricate medallion.

I adored the elevator.
Startled myself.
Removed a scar from the drawer.
Josef was still at the table

slapped like an academic. His son
at the doorway kissed me. But
it was a rule of the theatre
I would still sleep at night

to the sound of the river
to the sound of the rain
to the sound of anything
and vehemently denied actions.
