INFORMATION FOR CONTRIBUTORS
Coastlines is open from February to December each year to submissions from around Australia.
A decision will be reached on submissions within a time frame of two months.
Coastlines is open to all styles in the areas of:
- Poetry
- Fiction and Short Stories
- Non-fiction
- Drama
- Essays (literary or otherwise but not reviews for the time being)
- Literary Interviews.
We welcome works of collaborative and experimental writing.
Works must be original and unpublished. Any use of AI must be declared in an artistic statement outlining its use.
There is no theme, unless stated.
How to Submit Your Work
Please send work in a single document: up to four poems (max 200 lines per poem or up to half a page for prose poems); or up three prose pieces (max 500 words); or one prose piece (fiction, creative nonfiction, narrative nonfiction) of up to 5,000 words.
Please submit as a Word document in Times New Roman font, 1.5 spacing.
Please include a contact phone number in the cover email.
Include a bio note of no more than three sentences to accompany the work.
Make your Australian affiliation clear, if it is not evident from your bio note.
In the subject heading, indicate the genre e.g. “Poetry”; “Essay”; “Fiction – Excerpt”.
Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, if advised at the time of submission.
Coastlines is open to submissions that collaborate with AI for experimental purposes but this must be declared in a statement outlining the AI use.
Work accepted for publication may involve a light edit in consultation with the author.
The Journal retains copyright for two months after which time it reverts to the author.

PAYMENT & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
While Coastlines currently offers no payment, we are hopeful of establishing an award for the best piece of work in a given year, which will be accompanied by a monetary prize.
The Journal retains copyright for two months after which time it reverts to the author.
Submissions must be the sole work of the author and not involve third parties with claim to copyright unless stated. Obtaining permission to reproduce photographs and illustrations is the responsibility of the author.
Authors republishing work will need to acknowledge its original publication in Coastlines.
